Privacy Policy
Last updated: 5 July 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how the Pledge app ("Pledge", "we", "us" or "our") handles information when you use the app and this website. Pledge is a screen-time app operated by its developer, based in Australia. Pledge is designed to be private by default: it has no accounts, no sign-in, and no analytics or advertising trackers, and it does not collect, store or share personal information that identifies you.
1. Summary
In short: everything you do in Pledge — the apps you block, your schedules, your pledges and your history — stays on your device. We can't see it, and we have no server that stores it. The only information that ever leaves your device relates to in-app purchases, which are handled by Apple, and even then it is anonymous and cannot be linked to you.
2. Information we do not collect
We do not ask you to create an account or sign in. We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, contacts, location, photos or advertising identifiers through the app. We do not use third-party analytics, advertising networks, or tracking software of any kind, and we do not build a profile of you.
3. Screen Time information (processed on your device)
Pledge uses Apple's Screen Time frameworks (Family Controls and Device Activity) to block apps and measure usage. This information is processed on your device by Apple's frameworks and never leaves it. The apps you select for blocking are represented by opaque tokens provided by Apple that Pledge cannot read — we never know which specific apps you use or block.
4. Information stored on your device
Your pledges, blocking schedules, usage history, streaks and your chosen charity are stored only on your device. There is no server-side copy and no way for us to access or recover this information. If you delete the app, this information is deleted with it.
5. Payments and the App Store
Payments to end a blocking session early are in-app purchases processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. Pledge never sees or stores your payment card details, Apple ID, name or billing information. Each purchase carries an anonymous token that indicates only which charity you have chosen, so we can direct our own donations. This token contains no personal information and cannot be used to identify you.
6. Donation records we receive from Apple
So that we can calculate and make the charitable donations described in our Terms & Conditions, we receive transaction records from Apple (via the App Store Server API and Server Notifications). These records contain a transaction identifier, the product purchased, the price, the purchase date, any refund date, and the anonymous charity token described above. They do not include your name, email address, Apple ID or payment details, and we cannot use them to identify you. We keep these records only to work out how much we donate to each charity and to meet our tax and record-keeping obligations.
7. Community Giving totals
The Community Giving screen downloads a small file of aggregate, anonymous donation totals that we publish. Nothing about you or your usage is uploaded when you view it.
8. Notifications
If you allow notifications, they are scheduled locally on your device. Pledge does not use remote push notifications and does not send your information anywhere to deliver them.
9. This website
This website is a set of static information pages. It does not use cookies, analytics or tracking scripts, and it does not ask you to submit personal information. Our hosting provider (Cloudflare) may process standard technical information such as your IP address and request logs to serve the site securely and defend against abuse; this is handled under Cloudflare's own privacy terms.
10. Third parties
We do not sell or rent your information, and we do not share personal information with third parties for their own marketing. The third parties involved in providing Pledge are Apple (which processes purchases and Screen Time on your device) and Cloudflare (which hosts this website and our donation-calculation infrastructure). The charities you can choose from receive donations from us in aggregate — they never receive any information about you.
11. Children's privacy
Pledge is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children. Because we don't collect personal information, the app does not knowingly hold any information about a child.
12. Your privacy rights
Because your information is stored on your own device and we hold no personal profile of you, you are always in control: you can view, change or delete your pledges, schedules and history within the app at any time, and deleting the app removes all of it. We handle information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and, for New Zealand users, the Privacy Act 2020. If you have a question or complaint about your privacy, contact us using the details below.
13. Security
Because the app keeps your information on your device, its security is protected by your device's own protections (such as your passcode and Apple's on-device security). The limited, anonymous donation records we receive from Apple are stored on secured infrastructure and are not linked to your identity.
14. Changes to this policy
If our privacy practices change, we will update this policy and revise the date at the top. Your continued use of the app or website after an update means you accept the revised policy.
