How does the app help limit screen time?

The app provides tools and insights to monitor and reduce your screen time, encouraging healthier digital habits.

How do I delete a scheduled or limit block when it is not active?

To delete a scheduled or limit block that is not active, swipe its row from right to left and tap the delete icon that appears.

What happens during a blocking session?

During a blocking session, you cannot delete the Pledge app or alter the device time to try and escape the block early. This ensures that the block remains effective and helps you stick to your screen time goals.

How are charities selected?

The charities in the app were chosen by the developer based on their impact and alignment with our mission of promoting digital wellness and community well-being. They are independent organisations — they are not affiliated with Pledge and do not endorse the app.

Where does my money go?

When you pay to break a pledge, you're making an in-app purchase through the App Store — the payment goes to the developer, not directly to a charity. Pledge donates an amount equal to 60% of the price you pay (including GST) to the charity you've chosen in the Giving tab, passed on on a rolling basis throughout the year. The remaining 40% covers Apple's App Store commission (around 15%), GST and the costs of running Pledge.

Is my payment a charitable donation? Can I claim it on tax?

No. Pledge is not a charity or a not-for-profit. When you break a pledge you're buying an in-app purchase, not making a donation. Pledge then donates an amount equal to 60% of the price you paid to your chosen charity in its own name. Because that donation is made by Pledge and not by you, it is not tax deductible for you and you won't receive a donation receipt.

How do I set up app restrictions?

To set up app restrictions, go to the Pledges section of the app, select the apps you want to limit, and configure the time limits or blocking schedules as per your preference.

What happens if I bypass the restriction with a payment?

If you choose to bypass a restriction by making a payment, you will gain full access to the restricted app/s and the blocking session will become inactive.

Why can't I block an app?

Please check your Screen Time settings to see if the app is on the 'Always Allowed' list. Apps on this list are excluded from restrictions.

What is a pickup?

A pickup is recorded when you lift your phone and unlock it to use it. It specifically tracks the first app that you open immediately after unlocking your phone. This metric helps you understand how often you are engaging with your device and which apps are grabbing your attention first.

What is 'Block Now'?

Block Now allows you to immediately block access to selected apps for a specified period. This is useful for instant breaks or focusing on tasks without distractions.

How does 'Schedule' work?

The Schedule feature lets you set specific times of day when certain apps are blocked. This is great for creating routines, such as blocking social media during work hours.

What is 'Limit'?

The Limit feature allows you to set daily usage limits for specific apps. Once you reach the limit, the app will be blocked for the rest of the day, helping you manage your screen time more effectively.

Will I receive notifications when an app is blocked?

No, when an app is blocked, it will not send you notifications. This helps reduce distractions and ensures that the block is effective.
